Greenworld is an abandoned swimming pool in an old glass house at a location that can be found somewhere in Belgium. It belongs to a huge estate that belonged to a noble family. The estate consists of a castle built in neo-Flemish Renaissance style and a number of other buildings including the castle farm, a forester’s house and a chapel.
South of the castle is the former walled vegetable garden. The castle is accessible via a long access road with beautiful lime trees on both sides. During our visit, they began to lose their leaves and the beautiful autumn colors began to slowly become visible.
The estate is surrounded by canals. These were completely dried because of the hot summer. The castle is still inhabited by a family. The old couple was busy maintaining the garden when we visited the place.
The history of the castle domain dates back to the 14th century. From the 17th century the estate was owned by the current family who rebuilt the castle. The family played an important role in the development of local history. For example, in 1816 the local church was built by the lord of the castle.
The castle farm was used for the recreation of the residents and is equipped with an orangery with a swimming pool. Vine shrubs grow against the glass walls of the orangery. These were full with bunches of grapes during our visit.
